Norwich scheme residents notch up 25 years of celebrating wimbledon with strawberry teas
Older people living in a sheltered scheme in Norwich have celebrated Wimbledon and the summer in style – notching up their 25th consecutive annual Strawberry Tea.
Residents at Norwich housing Society’s Eleanor Road complex have been getting together for a celebratory afternoon tea in the scheme’s gardens to mark the Wimbledon fortnight every year for 25 years – and this year the sun shone as residents tucked into sandwiches, scones, cakes, and of course strawberries and cream, before enjoying a strawberry-themed quiz.
Scheme manager Sue Closs, along with volunteers from among the residents themselves, laid on the spread for the event, which forms part of a lively programme of social activities which takes place at the scheme.
“We have a lovely sense of community here at Eleanor Road, and the Strawberry Tea is one of the highlights of the year,” said Ms Closs. “Our residents love to get together and socialise, and there is no better way of celebrating summer than sitting in the sunshine and chatting with your neighbours.”
The Eleanor Road complex has 38 flats spread across five buildings, each surrounded by colourful gardens. The scheme is one of seven run by Norwich Housing Society across the city.
